The in between...to Suddenly!

More or less at every point in your life, you will be in some form of transition; moving from your current position to the next one or from one season to another. We don’t always recognise these transitionary periods or term them as such as some are quick and others may relate to areas in our lives which we may consider less important at that point in time. Some transitions are just more heightened than others. For those, we tend to call it a ‘season’ depending on the magnitude of the underlying factor and the weight it holds in our lives.

The dictionary definition of transition is 'a process or a period of changing from one state or condition to another'. Some words synonymous with this are: change, move, passage, transformation and metamorphosis. All these words indicate some sort of movement or shift. The important thing to note is that a waiting period is often a transition period, so though you are waiting you are actually meant to be in motion. It is the process by which you get to the next destination; like a bridge that connects two islands.

I grew up in a city full of bridges. The city itself is an Island made up of small little Islands and bridges which are required to connect from one Island to the other. Some bridges are bigger or longer than others and it is usually relative to the size of the Island you are going to but you can’t move ahead without first getting on the bridge and secondly moving. Similarly, in life you have to transcend your current situation and keep things moving even in the 'in between' phases if not you could be robbed or short changed of your next season.

This may all sound very hypothetical and perhaps a little far fetched but I would like you to use your current season as a practical example for application. Here are some things you can and should do over this period.

  1. Praise, Praise, Praise! - I can't say it enough! Praising God is telling of His greatness. The bible says in Psalm 150, “let everything that has breath praise the Lord”. Luke 19:40 says “even the stones will cry out”, indicating that even the things that don’t have breathe praise the Lord, more so we that do! There are so many effects of praise and you can read the following article to find out more - Effects of praise

  2. War for your word - the great apostle Paul said to Timothy, “I am giving you this command in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by recalling them you may fight the battle well” (1 Timothy 1:18). Has God given you a word? Has he spoken to you concerning some things? Protect the word God has given you. Remind yourself of it as often as needed. Pray over it and exercise discernment. Even if you think He hasn’t spoken to you, the bible is His word and He has said lots about you in there

  3. Worship - this speaks of God’s nature and who He is. It is the key to drawing near to God and aligns our heart to His

  4. Be nimble - Be sensitive to the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 5:15 tells us to “walk circumspectly”. Galatians 5:16 tells us to “walk by the Spirit so we do not gratify the desires of the flesh“

  5. Be quick to obey - If God gives you an instruction to carry out, there is a possibility it may not make complete rational sense before or after but be quick to act on it. Remember, His thoughts are not our thoughts and His ways are not our ways (Isaiah 55:8)

  6. Meditate and declare God's word over your life - Death & life are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). Surround yourself with God’s word, consume it and become one with it. Block out anything else that doesn’t align with it

  7. Swift repentance - Be quick to repent. Matthew 5:25 tells us to agree with our adversary quickly, in other words turn away from what is not of God so the enemy will not have a foot hold over you (see Ephesians 4:27). Acts 3:19 tells u to repent and turn to God, so that we will receive times of refreshing

  8. Act in faith - as the bible says in James 2:26, “faith without works is dead” so start getting ready for your the promises God has made to you

  9. Get out of your comfort zone - prayerfully do something different to what you have done during periods of transition. Give yourself a stretch assignment or task

Don’t lose hope in the in between, your suddenly season is nigh!
